Gary Gygax has died. Clicky.
I doth quote Slashdot:
Mearlus writes "In the recent past co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons Gary Gygax has worked with Troll Lord Games, a small tabletop RPG publisher. Their forums have up a post noting that Mr. Gygax has apparently passed away. Gygax was known, along with Dave Arneson, as the Father of Roleplaying."
I am devastated.
Edit: I was finally able to put into words how I feel; originally posted to Wheaton:
It's never easy being different, but Gary Gygax and his fantastical D&D filled our void by giving us dorks, geeks, freaks and losers a calling. With dice in hand, we found each other, banding together to form a tight-knit community.
Sure, we're still pretty weird compared to whatever society claims is 'normal,' but I'll take us over them any day.
I'll miss Gary forever.

Holy Crap!
"-30,000 news of sucking. You miss."
Man, I want to cry. I want to yell his soul to Valhalla. I want to play a game in his name. I just want it to not be true.
I did cry. I felt like I had lost all sense of time and meaning.
I sat staring at that headline on Fark for a long time before my shaking hand could click the link, the only thing going through my head was, "no no no no no no..." like a toddler locked in a tantrum.
Reading the proof on Slashdot killed something inside. I had felt that as long as Gary was somewhere out there in the world, then the world would be all right.
We must slog through an old-school dungeon crawl in his honor.
Soo, if you haven't seen today's (7 Mar) XKCD, you must go there immediately. (or sooner)
Been there, done that.
:boohoo:
